The show also featured the Supremes during their reign as the most successful female recording group of the era. The group had three chart-topping singles from July 1964 to December 1964, with the album Where Did Our Love Go reaching number two. Diana Ross would go on to work with Binder on several of her television specials, including her first solo television special and her famous Central Park concert, Live from New York Worldwide: For One and for All. Throughout the show numerous go-go dancers performed in the background or beside the performers, under the direction of choreographer David.

One key thing about this show was that most of the acts were either at the top of their game, or just about to explode. The Beach Boys, for example, were in the midst of a great run of hits including "Fun, Fun, Fun," "Don't Worry Baby" and the chart-topping "I Get Around," all of which were only months old at the time of filming. Chuck Berry, representing the old guard, kicked off the show with a stomping take on "Johnny B. Goode. Maybelline" segues right into Gerry & the Pacemakers, doing their own version of the song in an almost ds fashion. Gerry & C. who, along with Kramer, were there to represent the Liverpool scene in lieu of the Beatles, also deliver a supercharged versions of their classic hits "It's Gonna Be Alright," "I Like It" and "How Do You Do It?"

Tami Show was a band from Chicago, Illinois. The group took its name from a 1964 concert film. The six-member ensemble (including sisters Cathy and Claire Massey on vocals) released an album on Chrysalis Records in 1988 and a second on RCA Records in 1991; they are best remembered for their US top 40 hit, "The Truth" and had a minor hit with the song "She's Only Twenty" from their debut album.

Chuck Berry opens the show and performs "Johnny B Goode" and his 1955 hit "Maybelline". He is then joined by "Gerry and The Pacemakers" who do their updated British version of the song. and a medley of their hits.
