This Is England" is a song by the English punk rock band The Clash, released in September 1985 from their sixth, final, and critically maligned studio album Cut the Crap. Nick Sheppard – guitar, backing vocals. Vince White – guitars. Pete Howard – drums on "Do It Now" and "Sex Mad Roar".

This is England This knife of Sheffield steel This is England This is how we feel. Time on his hands the freezing mohawk strolls He won't go for the carrots Been beaten by the pole Some sunny day confronted by his soul His eye will see how fast you can grow old. This is England That I'm supposed to die for This is England Never gonna cry no more. The standout track from the Clash’s disappointing final album Cut the Crap, This is England paints a picture of mid-80s Britain – with crumbling industry, a bleak outlook, and in the grip of the Thatcher government. Though the album was poorly received at the time, This is England eventually became a classic.

The Clash is the debut studio album by English punk rock band the Clash. It was released on 8 April 1977 through CBS Records. Written and recorded over three weeks in February of 1977 for a paltry £4,000, it would go one to reach on the UK charts, and has been included on many retrospective rankings as one of the greatest punk albums of all time

This is England This knife of Sheffield steel This is England This is how we feel. Time on his hands freezing in those clothes He won't go for the carrot They beat him by the pole Some sunny day confronted by his soul He's out at sea, too far off, he can't go home. This is England What we're supposed to die for This is England And we're never gonna cry no more. Black shadow of the Vincent Falls on a Triumph line I got my motorcycle jacket But I'm walking all the time South Atlantic wind blows Ice from a dying creed I see no glory When will we be free. Too bad that there's mistakes such as "A (??) in the eye like a flare".

The atmosphere around the writing of Cut the Crap, the final Clash album and the only one the group produced after firing founder member Mick Jones and drummer Topper Headon, was notoriously difficult and edgy. Singer Joe Strummer would go on to basically ignore the whole period of 1984-5 as not even part of The Clash canon, except for "This Is England," which he regarded as his "last great Clash song
