Notes

In late May 1968 (the excact date not known) the Beatles came together at 'Kinfauns', George Harrison's home in Esher. One by one, first John, then Paul, they recorded 23 of their newest compositions by double-tracking themselves on George's Reel-to-Reel-tape-machine.
These songs, most of whom where written during the Beatles' two-month-stay on a meditation-course in Rishikesh, India, February - April 1968, were subsequently recorded for the 'White Album'. But not all of them made it onto vinyl and thus remain unreleased (at least as Beatles-versions).
Judging by the outcome of this session, it must have been a very sunny and relaxing day. Spring certainly was in the air (and a bit of pot maybe too).
Just accompanied by their acoustic guitars, John, Paul and George recorded very charming and joyful early versions of their newest tunes.
Something slightly out-of-sync with their own double-tracking but who cares?
Spontanity counts!
Had this session been recorded 25 years later it would have been a bonafide TV-Unplugged-performance!
But as it is, this 1968 session remained in the vaults until now !!

We proudly present this tape to you in the correct running-order and in the best possible sound (two generations away from the actual master-tape).
Enjoy!
The short acoustic bit of "Helter Skelter" was recorded on 11th June, 1968 at Abbey Road studios.
The last two tracks were recorded in India.
The light atmosphere of these musical snippets set the tone for the "Kinfauns"-session.

Unplugged (The Official Bootleg). 1991 live album by Paul McCartney. Unplugged (The Official Bootleg). Using the same line-up that had recently backed him (save for Blair Cunningham who had replaced Chris Whitten), McCartney used the opportunity to dust off some of his rarer tracks, including three from his 1970 debut album McCartney, alongside several covers and amid a helping of familiar Beatles hits. This recording was one of the first in the famed MTV Unplugged series

There they recorded demo versions of a number of songs written in India, 19 of which later appeared on the White Album.

The Unplugged session includes a wonderfully airy rendition of Dear Prudence, which like so many of these songs, was written during The Beatles’ sojourn in India, about Mia Farrow’s sister (a complete tracklist is here). The compilers of the release have tacked on three additional songs: Spiritual Regeneration India (also a birthday tribute to The Beach Boy’s Mike Love), an oddly upbeat studio run-through of Helter Skelter, and a free-form acoustic medley of traditional songs called Rishikesh No. 9 (also called "Spiritual Christmas")

The Beatles’ studio sessions for The BEATLES (‘White Album’) began on May 30, 1968 at Abbey Road Studios. In the 20 weeks that followed, The Beatles devoted most of their time to sessions there for the new album, with some recording also done at Trident Studios. Look on this as The Beatles Unplugged!!!, One of the biggest things we learned through listening to the sessions, and which the fans can hear too via the inclusion of the studio chat and banter between takes, is that while this was certainly a time of change for the guys – growing up and maybe starting to grow apart too, it was NOT the miserable experience that has become history’s.
