Platinum Blonde is a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto in 1980. At the beginning of its most commercially successful period in the mid-to late 1980s, the band consisted of Mark Holmes (Mansfield, England) on vocals and bass, Sergio Galli on guitar and Chris Steffler on drums. Scottish musician Kenny MacLean joined the group as bassist in 1985, freeing Holmes from bass duties.

Contact, the 3rd album from the new wave band Platinum Blonde, was released in 1987. Canadian sales of Alien Shores and Contact exceeded 100,000 copies. Platinum Blonde is the self-titled debut EP by Platinum Blonde released in 1983. The EP was only released on vinyl and cassette and is also known as Six Track Attack. It reached a high of on the Canadian charts in early 1984, before being subsequently re-released with four additional tracks as the full-length Standing in the Dark album in 1984. Background and writing. In 1983, following the formation of their new band, Platinum Blonde recorded a 7-song demo tape in a friend's living room and sent it to English producer David Tickle who expressed immediate interest in the project. The resulting attention allowed the band to return to the studio with Tickle and record four more songs to make a complete album called Standing in the Dark which was then released in early 1984. Platinum Blonde is re-issuing its self-titled six-song EP from 1983 on vinyl Track listing.

Platinum Blonde was formed in Toronto, Canada in 1982 between the end of the disco boom and the beginnings of glammy hard rock. New wave was in its commercial glory and bands like the Police, Duran Duran and Billy Idol were combining fashion and sound to cash in on the new art form of music video. Vocalist Mark Holmes, guitarist Sergio Galli, bassist Kenny MacLean and percussionist Chris Steffer were Canada's answer to those bands. In 1983, Platinum Blonde released its debut album, Standing in the Dark, for Epic Records Canada.
