January 19, 1971 Mixed live at Massey Hall. This is Neil Young, arguably, at his creative peak. Recorded between After the Gold Rush and Harvest, acoustic and beautifully raw, this is the real deal. No overdubs, no studio trickery, heart on his sleeve, Youngs talent is stripped bare and put on display.

Neil Young has always been a captivating live performer, whether it’s leading the feedback-drenched manic panic of Crazy Horse or gently nudging his reflective muse as a solo act with sparse piano and acoustic guitar. This Toronto concert, the second release of the long awaited Neil Young Archives series, is a prime example of the latter. Having experienced wide-ranging success with his 1970 album, After the Gold Rush, and tours with Crosby, Stills and Nash, Young was in the process of putting together what would become one of his best-selling albums, 1972’s Harvest.

Released in 2007, the album features a solo, acoustic performance from Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada on 19 January 1971 during the Journey Through the Past Solo Tour. It is the second release in Young's Archives Performance Series. It reached in Canada with 11,000 units sold in its first week. It debuted at on the Irish Charts, and on the UK albums chart. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart on 31 March 2007 at number 6, with 57,000 copies sold. It spent 11 weeks on the chart. Live At Massey Hall 1971 is a live album by Neil Young. Released in 2007, the album features a solo, acoustic performance from Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada on 19 January 1971 during the Journey Through the Past Solo Tour.

Live At Massey Hall, the legendary concert from Neil Young, is finally officially released, and in highresolution stereo. The acclaimed Toronto performance features classics "Old Man" and, in a suite, "A Man Needs A Maid" and "Heart Of Gold" (before they were recorded for Harvest) along with some of his most popular songs ("Cowgirl In The Sand," "Ohio") as well as the most obscure ("Bad Fog Of Loneliness"). This is an essential album for anyone who loves Neil Young. In fact, it may be the one must-have in his catalog. Recorded in 1971, this is Young at his very best - vocals, piano, guitar, and an artist with nothing but talent and everything ahead of him.

Live at Massey Hall is the latest from Neil Young, and the second in his long-awaited Archives Performance Series (though I’m still confused as to why it’s listed as Disc 3 on the sleeve). Following the high-profile ‘After The Gold Rush’ during his Journey Through The Past Tour, where Neil performed solo on acoustic guitar and on piano due to a back injury, the Massey Hall performance is nothing short of amazing. The audience applauds as Neil begins signing the familiar words, as they do throughout the album. The songs are two of the more upbeat numbers in the set, and they get things off to a jolly start, with heavier songs to follow. After a bit of background explanation and fiddling around on the guitar, Neil launches into ‘Old Man’, a new song at the time to appear on Harvest.
