Butter-Side Up," for example, is jazzy in a way that Wolf was not, and "Brandy Balloon" recalls the bluesier funk bands of the '70s (such as War and the Ohio Players ). Without question, Siegal sounds like he has spent a lot of time listening to Howlin' Wolf, but he also sounds like he has spent a lot of time listening to the Doors, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, and Tower of Power. While Siegal is blues-oriented, he is far from a blues purist, and there is no overlooking the fact that rock, soul and funk have also affected his musical outlook

His first album "Picture Postcards" also showed Ian to be a gifted songwriter with a deep understanding of musical traditions, but with an eye on the future. Moving to London to further his career was inevitable and Ian became an established part of the London Blues community almost immediately. That’s where today’s Ian Siegal band was born.
For years now, Ian Siegal, a recent Amsterdam citizen, has been turning out albums that are both impressive and appreciated by blues-lovers almost everywhere. With ‘All the Rage’ the guy has simply upped his game by several notches to deliver a simply superb album. Fretwork, vocals, the whole-damn-package just roars with sheer class and quality. This is an album that could easily be an album of the year, even this early in the year. Self-penned songs show the top-notch skill and talent of Siegal here performing at his very best
Ian Siegal's live shows confirm him as the leading bluesman in Britain. Their sweaty catharsis is hinted at here. He makes no effort to anglicise the blues, and is generations away from Willie Nelson's minimalist ease. Instead, Siegal growls and barks, a young man trying to grapple the old blues' secrets to the ground. There are nods to Sam Cooke and James Brown, enhanced by Jonny Henderson's Hammond, and hints he's heard rap, or maybe Dylan, on "Work"
