Singer, Television Personality, Pianist. Nat King Cole became the first African-American performer to host a variety TV series in 1956. He's best known for his soft baritone voice and for singles like "The Christmas Song," "Mona Lisa" and "Nature Bo. Synopsis. Born on March 17, 1919, in Montgomery, Alabama, Nat King Cole was an American musician who first came to prominence as a jazz pianist. He owes most of his popular musical fame to his soft baritone voice, which he used to perform in big band and jazz genres.

Nat King Cole is surely one of America's most beloved cultural icons. Beginning in the late 1930s, his elegant piano style defined the jazz-piano trio and brought jazz itself to a wider audience. But when he took up a microphone to sing, Cole set a standard that made him a consummate and world-famous entertainer. In the mid-1940s, as Cole's trio evolved, his supple voice became an increasingly important ingredient in the ensemble's success. The trio's personnel was also changing, as guitarist Irving Ashby replaced Oscar Moore in 1947 and bassist Joe Comfort replaced Johnny.

Nat King Cole & Me’, from Grammy-winning singing sensation Gregory Porter – one of the most successful jazz artists of his generation. It is a deeply personal tribute to Nat King Cole – the legendary crooner who ignited Gregory’s love of music. It’s only natural that I go to the root of my inspiration and where I come from. And that root would be my mother and gospel music and Nat King Cole, he says. Gregory Porter a very good singer and this album is brilliant I have heard it online and he is very similar to Nat King Cole when he sings some of his songs. Gregory would be good singing along side Nat King Cole if he was still alive today. One person found this helpful.
