Hot Snakes are an American post-hardcore band led by Rick Froberg and John Reis, formed in 1999 in San Diego, California. Reis and Froberg had previously performed together in Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu, after which Reis had found international success with Rocket from the Crypt. Hot Snakes disbanded in 2005 but reunited in 2011.

The last Hot Snakes album was released 14 damned years ago, and while it's unclear why John Reis, Rick Froberg, Gar Wood, and drummers Jason Kourkounis & Mario Rubalcaba decided to get the band back together, it is abundantly clear that it was a very, very good idea. They're back with Jericho Sirens (Sub Pop), the fiercest record to date. Jericho Sirens is a fiery, stripped down juggernaut that, by the end, feels like a referendum on the banal, a manifesto against bullshit.

Jericho Sirens, their first album in 14 years, is out Friday; I describe the Grog Shop as beer-soaked because the singer for Duchess Says, one of Sunday night’s opening bands, poured a beer over her head and then shook herself vigorously. Hot Snakes put out two more albums, 2002’s Suicide Invoice (Track 1: I Hate the Kids ) and 2004’s Audit in Progress, then drifted apart, save the occasional reunion show. Reis, a label head and San Diego scene godfather who also fronts the long-running garage-punk band Rocket From the Crypt, has stayed particularly busy. That band has a goofy jam called Born in ’69, which makes Reis one of the more prolific and intimidating near-50-year-olds I know.

Hot Snakes streamlined Jehu’s complex compositions and emerged as bona fide downstroke warlords. They made 3 studio albums of high-velocity, slash-your-face, piss-punk: 2000’s Automatic Midnight, 2002’s Suicide Invoice and 2004’s Audit in Progress. The band ceased activity in 2005 but reunited for a triumphant world tour in 2011, planting the seeds for what has cum. Now, after a 14-year hiatus from the studio, Hot Snakes have kicked down the door back into our lives with their new album, Jericho Sirens, due out March 16 from Sub Pop. Fresh, warm piss, bottled and sold as lube

Listen on apple music. Album Songs and Lyrics. 5. Why Don't It Sink In? Album Info.

Jericho Sirens is an incredible turn, and proof to the other half-hearted post-hardcore comebacks of the last years (looking at you At the Drive-In, Refused and more) that it is possible to still be high-quality and relevant. In fact, in places Hot Snakes' fourth album is so good, it even puts newer bands who have come up in the meantime to shame. Whenever Hot Snakes decide to get together, they will always be welcome.

San Diego post-hardcore veterans Hot Snakes return with 'Jericho Sirens', fourteen years after their last record 'Audit In Progress' and following a 2011 reunion tour.

Fantastic record after fourteen years. Feels like they never left.
How many of the black was pressed? Can’t seem to find any info on it
surprised that sub(par) pop didn't drop the ball on this one. sq is very good (no noise in the marker grooves - only on the intro to B4 did i barely hear audible noise). album is short tho. with "candid cameras" being my least favorite song on the album. happy to have it in my collection
My copy sounds distorted. Anybody else with similar issues? I don't think it's a good cut/pressing. Usually Optimal Media delivers good quality. Not in this case surprisingly.
Very good return of one of my bands of reference in the two thousand
Agreed! Best of 2018 in my collection. I still prefer the black edition. This version sounds a bit more distorted at times than it should, and it ain't just the tube amps.
I just got the "regular" clear vinyl edition at one of their shows. The cover is on a reflective foil material. Is this the same on the "loser" edition? Lastly, the barcodes appear to be identical on both versions. Not sure if that matters much, just an FYI.
How is the sound of your copy, please? I have the EU Loser edition on black vinyl which was cut & pressed elsewhere. The sound is kinda distorted - and I don't mean good distortion!
I think it's still up for preorder at the moment on Sub Pop's site. And given it's on black vinyl, I'm sure it probably sounds a little better than the clear stuff!
Yep, loser edition is also reflective foil, and bar codes would be the same.
Let me know how it sounds! I still plan on picking up the "loser" edition if I so happen to stumble upon it.
Brick my own
Just got the Loser edition in the mail. Yes, reflective cover art. Black vinyl.
