Listen free to Milt Jackson & John Coltrane – Bags & Trane (Bags & Trane, Three Little Words and more). Recorded in January 1959 at Atlantic Studios in NYC, and released in 1961 on Atlantic Records, 'Bags & Trane' is the only collaborative record by the pair. It was originally released as a Milt Jackson record, as he was the session leader and still signed to Atlantic under the auspices of the Modern Jazz Quartet. Coltrane had left Atlantic for Impulse Records at the time of this album's issue.

Milt Jackson & John Coltrane. Album of the Day. Tuesday, January 15, 2019. As vibraphonist for the Modern Jazz Quartet, Milt Jackson represented a more traditional approach to jazz than did John Coltrane at the beginning of the 1960s – the latter's sheets of sound approach placed the tenor saxophonist closer to the avant-garde. Yet somehow the pair's Atlantic album BAGS & TRANE was a match made in heaven
