Day", was released in June 1969 but did not chart. Their debut album, Bread, was released in September 1969 and peaked at No. 127 on the Billboard 200. Songwriting on the album was split evenly between Gates and the team of Griffin-Royer. Session musicians Jim Gordon, and Ron Edgar, accompanied the band on drums for the album. For their next single, Bread released a re-recorded version of "It Don't Matter To Me", a Gates song from their first album. This single was a hit as well, reaching No. 10. Bread began touring and recording their third album, titled Manna (March 1971), which peaked at and included "Let Your Love Go" (which preceded the album's release and made No. 28) and the Top 5 hit single, "If".

Bread - Dismal Day Songtext. I look into my morning mirror And it reveals some things to me that I had not been able to see I saw someone that I'm not sure I want to be An empty lonely face was starin' back at me. All and all, I would have to say It's been a rather dismal day. The afternoon was slow in coming I drug myself outside the people that I knew would be there And though they walked along pretending not to care I knew behind my back they'd point and laugh and stare.

From the 1969 album titled Bread, the song Dismal Day. This was Bread´s first single, although it didn´t chart. David Gates, who wrote the song, says, & thought that song would be a smash hit, but it didn´t do that well as a single. It was a good outlet for us to sing all those high harmonies, though.
