Box of Frogs were a band formed in 1983 by former members of the Yardbirds, who released their first album in 1984. The core group consisted of Chris Dreja, Paul Samwell-Smith, and Jim McCarty. Vocals on their eponymous album were done by John Fiddler, formerly of Medicine Head and British Lions; on the second album Fiddler sang on five tracks with guests including Graham Parker, Ian Dury and Roger Chapman singing lead on the others.

The self titled Box of Frogs album was the best album of 1984. Everyone was listening to MJ's thriller (ack-pthht), I was listening to this. I didn't make the same connection to Strangeland, but I still enjoy the first album. How a Box of Frogs came about is a mystery to me, but it was perfectly 80's for a hard rock band. The trio re-teamed in 1983 for a live date at the London Marquee, and with a new vigor and hint at success, they soon christened themselves Box of Frogs adding Medicine Head vocalist John Fiddler. In addition to the core band, most of the tracks across both albums, BOX OF FROGS ('84) and STRANGE LAND ('86), are rounded out with a veritable who's who of rock, including old bandmates Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page

This turned out to be one of those albums that gets better each time you listen to it. It would appear that some old friends got together for a project. To me, it seems to be a nice little Yardbird'sreunion, Jim McCarty, Chris Dreja, Paul Samwell-Smith, and John Fiddler on vocals. Then the gueststars add some really good guitar work, Jeff Beck on 4, Rory Gallagher on 2, and Dzal, Ray Majors finish the job on the other 3 songs. Add a little Max Middleton and you've got a great recording. There is some pretty good guitar work on all of the songs, but Beck comes alive on " Poor Boy ". Then there is "Just a Boy Again ", with nice piano and vocals standing out nicely.
