And then there's Kaki King. King toured with the Foo Fighters on the Australian leg of the Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace tour. While on tour, King finished recording what became the Day Sleeper (Australian tour EP). It was released in late 2007 after King had finished working on August Rush, and with Eddie Vedder and Sean Penn on Into The Wild. Further changes in sound. After completing her "No Bullshit Tour," King scored work on the independent film How I Got Lost, and started to record her next EP, titled Mexican Teenagers EP. Are your songs intimately connected to the instruments on which you write them? KING Yeah, of course. The Adamas allows me to tune really low, and that’s something I’ve sought out for ages-lower and darker tone that still maintains clarity. And, of course, the tiny 12-string, the Veillette Gryphon that I have, those songs couldn’t exist on anything else. The Gryphon has such an incredible, sparkly sound on the new song King Pizel.
Kaki King first heard the Ovation Guitar being played by her father. Kaki has performed on every continent over the course of multiple world tours, and has presented her work in a variety of prestigious arts centers, including the Kennedy Center, MoMA, LACMA and The Met. She has created music for numerous film and TV soundtracks, including August Rush and Sean Penn's Into the Wild, for which received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score. In April 2017, Kaki recorded her first full-length album with chamber orchestra, commissioned by the Berklee College of Music. Interview Date: October 21, 2017.
