17 was the second DJ mix album mixed by Aim. More from Peer van de Meer. Brazil 2018added 3 months ago. Andrew Turner, known by the recording name Aim, is a British musician, DJ and producer, who was born in Barrow-in-Furness. Aim's sound is a blend of funky electronic music and hip hop beats, a sound which typified the Grand Central Records label. Much of Aim's work is instrumental, though his records include collaborations with other artists who provide vocals, including Stephen Jones of Babybird, Diamond D, Souls of Mischief, QNC and Kate Rogers.

FABRICLIVE 17. Aim. Andy Turner, aka Aim, was born and raised in the rugged landscapes of Cumbria and spent his youth enjoying the finest years of Manchester's musical renaissance. The son of a jazz drummer in a music loving Northern family, he began collecting vinyl as a kid and became a devoted adult crate digger. His love of making beats saw him hanging around the record shops of Oldham St in the Northern Quarter, where he handed a demo to Mark Rae and eventually signed to Grand Central Records. His debut album in '99 was an astounding success; 'Cold Water Music' married powerful beats and intricate melodies with stunning, uniquely English vocals about lost love and winter weather. A DJ since his early 20s, Aim has taken his live band on the road in recent years.

An enjoyable workout. My personal highlights include: 101 pianos by the unsung hero of UK hip hop, Lewis Parker, here giving off a slightly chilling feel thanks to the piano loop that moves in and out of the mix. Faith by Lords of the Underground and what you say by INI, a Pete Rock - produced masterpiece are pretty good too. aim hints here at his excellent ear for a hip hop groove - throwing in a mix of rare instrumentals and lesser know classics. However its is hard to imagine some of these being dropped at Fabic, perhaps times were diferent then but I find it hard to believe the dancefloor working up a sweat over James Yorkstone's tune. Nevertheless - all hail andy turner.

Absolutely fabulous. Great selection of tracks, doesn't stick to one style, which is great for people who are not that familiar with hip-hop like me. A lot of melody, great vibe, fresh, makes me feel good after a hard day's work.

Very eclectic album. Between the hip-hop you'd expect, lies the neo-folk of James Yorkston, jazz-pop of Tom Scott, pop-rock of The Village Callers. I think someone made a mistake and should have labeled this as something off the AnotherLateNite series. It starts off pretty decent, and I really liked the James Yorkston track, and I was able to jump to the Lords of the Underground, but it just got messy after that. I start to get over the cheesy 60's pop-rock, back into really classy hip-hop cuts again, and the misplaced pop-rock kicks in again. Lot's of really good singles, no doubt about it, but as a whole, this thing falls apart for me.
