The Wheel" is a song by the English musician PJ Harvey. It is the tenth track and lead single from her ninth studio album, The Hope Six Demolition Project, and was released digitally on 22 January 2016 and physically on 4 March 2016 on Island Records. The song was premiered on Steve Lamacq's show on BBC Radio 6 Music on 21 January 2016, the day before its release. Pitchfork would later list "The Wheel" on their ranking of the 100 best songs of 2016 at number 80.

Dry is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter and musician PJ Harvey, released on Too Pure Records on 30 March 1992. The album was recorded at The Icehouse, a local studio in Yeovil, United Kingdom. The first 5000 LPs and first 1000 CDs included demo versions of the album's tracks and Dry was subsequently released in the United States on Indigo Records in the US. Both versions were released in 1992.

The Wheel" is most likely based on past events in Kosovo, as it makes references to a poem she wrote in her book The Hollow of the Hand. As well as the fact that 28,000 international troops were sent to invade Kosovo in 1990. The song features a call-and-response lyric about the disappearance of 28,000 people lost upon a revolving whee. f metal chairs. The Community of Hope. We No Who U R. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

After teasing the album over the past few months (and debuting a bunch of new songs live in October), we finally have the first single and some more details about Harvey’s latest release, her first since 2011’s Let England Shake. The new song is called The Wheel, and was inspired by her travels over the past few years, as Steve Lamacq said when introducing it on BBC Radio 6, where it debuted earlier today

The Wheel" - PJ Harvey Via SoundCloud. In 1992, an NME writer asked PJ Harvey about the political resonance of her work. I feel uncomfortable with myself at the moment because I feel I’m neglecting that side," she replied. I’m not concerned enough about things. She worried that the critical attention she had received for her debut album, that year’s Dry, was making her introspective. It could get really dangerous if I don’t do something about it soon," she said. I could develop a huge ego or something.

I can add that I have one first press that is flat, so its not all that was warped. My first press actually sounds better
The repress have matrix 13832301/A 4767879-B, and the first press have 13832301/A 4767879-A.The first press is often warped and repress is flat.
Could somebody explain the diferences between the original single and the repress release?
The Repress has a lighter etching and Matrix / Runout: 13832301/B
I have the original (dished but playable) and the repress. Only difference I can see is the matrix number. On the repress it is 4767879-A 13832301/B
This has def been repressed as local shop now has dozens available
Could somebody explain the diferences between the original single and the repress release?
I saw a repress mentioned on Piccadilly Records' website too.

Dozens of flat copies in Fopp Leicester Square today. Matrix is slightly different (13832301/B) so there must be a repress.

Mine plays great, loved the audio quality! what an awesome song!
The recall looks pretty official. Amazon UK have completely removed the 7" vinyl listing from the site now, which means they won't even allow third party Marketplace sellers to offer it...and I did see a lot of Marketplace sellers offering it.
Slowly writer
I got mine at Rough Trade here in NY and mine is flat. They only got one in! Lucky Me!
Could somebody explain the diferences between the original single and the repress release?
Bought a copy from my store (I work for Hmv, the info we had was they are all "dished" and will be returned) the fault is quite visible, but i decided to take a chance on it and it plays absolutly fine
What puzzles me that all copies for sale are listed as 'Mint' or NM- while most copies have a degree of dishing! So i suppose VG+ would be more accurate?
mine is 1000% great ! MINT totally! so don;t be so ceratin about VG+
bought a copy from crash records in leeds , it is slightly dished but still plays perfectly .
Could somebody explain the diferences between the original single and the repress release?
A fair few in HMV Oxford St just now when I picked up my looks fine to me but not played it yet!
All copies have definitely been recalled by the record label. Bought a copy in sister Ray today , plays fine although definitely dished. All the other copies were in the process of being boxed up and returned.
This is a different mix to Video version: the hand-clapping introduction is absent, with the start being the song fully under way with the hand claps relatively quiet amongst the other instruments. The instrumental section is much longer, 1:22, before the vocals start, and the ending is more sudden with no chain clinks. Total length 5:33. This is long for a 7" and it shows with the reduced dynamic range. The disc is dished & warped, but plays through fine. My copy has quite few surface marks, presumably from manual handling related to the production of the etching, and the "scratchy" cardboard sleeve with it's numerous fragments of loose card.
I pre-ordered this from HMV's website and received this e-mail the day before release... "Dear hmv Customer We're getting in touch regarding your order for the below 7" single: Cat No: 4767879 Barcode: 602547678799 Artist: HARVEY, PJ Title : WHEEL I'm afraid it has come to our attention that all copies of this item are faulty and will need to be returned to the supplier. Unfortunately the item is discontinued and no further copies are due to be made, and as such we will not be able to fulfil your order. We will therefore refund you in full for this item. Apologies for any disappointment this may cause. On behalf of hmv, our apologies for any inconvenience caused. Please feel free to contact us if you require any assistance. Kind regards, hmv Customer Service"I did manage to get hold of a couple of copies from my local record shop and although "dished" they played fine on my player.
From what i could tell all UK online retailers seemed to receive their orders with the majority selling out over the weekend. Didn't see any of them returning their stock even with negative reviews and comment being left, i.e. Amazon.
My local independent record store with a large on line presence recieved a box of these all horribly dished. Half of their on line pre-order customers wanted to receive them in this condition and the rest cancelled. The shop then decided they did not want to sell such a warped product and sent the rest back with the distributer telling them there would not be a repress. This is only the experience of one shop though so who knows how many got out and what the plans are for a re-release....
I noticed the same and can't find any reference to this being pulled. Curious as to where this info came from on the notes.
So. How many got out? HMV and Rough Trade in Nottingham have both got a few copies.
The 7" is limited to just 2000 copies in the UK
