The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration is a live double-album release in recognition of Bob Dylan's 30 years as a recording artist. Recorded on October 16, 1992, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, it captures most of the concert, which featured many artists performing classic Dylan songs, before ending with three songs from Dylan himself.

The cumulative effect of this tribute was staggering, revealing just how much truly great Dylan material there is to choose from all of his periods. A firm nucleus of the three surviving members of Booker T. & the MG's, plus .

At Bob Dylan‘s anniversary celebration, held at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 16, 1992, the event transcended the man. Between the stunning range of artists who performed Dylan’s songs – from Stevie Wonder to Roger McGuinn, Tracy Chapman to Eric Clapton, John Mellencamp to the Clancy Brothers – and Sinead O’Connor‘s emotional tug of war with the audience, there was no individual hero. Some renditions truly stand out. Lou Reed‘s explosive Foot of Pride expands the moral weight of the original (from The Bootleg Series), while Booker T. and the MG’s, who served as the core of the evening’s house band, make the earth’s gravity palpable in every backbeat.

Later released as The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration, this show served as an all-encompassing reminder. Time has a way of making everything look bigger than it really is," Rick Danko, a long-time Dylan collaborator with the Band, said during rehearsals at Madison Square Garden. Going in, nobody knew if Dylan himself would show (par for the course with one of rock's most mercurial figures), but the lineup of featured guests promised to tell his story: The Clancy Brothers represented the old master's root system. Nothing could knock this historic evening off track, however. The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration remains a remarkable moment in music history, and a testament to the cross-genre, cross-generational genius of Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan’s tunes are rendered by a host of rock royalty in The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration. In "Cried," her emotional liberation comes not through lashing out but in breaking down. In "Same Kinda Man," she blames herself for her bad romantic life ("Why don't I run while I can?/I always end up loving the wrong kind of man"). Few careers have enjoyed as many distinct acts as Bob Dylan's.
