Deutsche Grammophon had produced an album for its complete recording of the opera Carmen in 1908. German record company Odeon released the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky in 1909 on 4 double-sided discs in a specially designed package; this practice of issuing albums does not seem to have been taken up by other record companies for many years. His trio released three albums during this time showcasing the guitar-synth: Current Events, Getting There with Michael Brecker, John Abercrombie, Marc Johnson, & Peter Erskine.

Guitarist John Abercrombie who has recorded as a leader for ECM since 1974 returns with a second album by his quartet featuring kindred-spirit piano foil Marc Copland, along with longtime rhythm partners Drew Gress and Joey Baron. with bassist Gress and drummer Baron equally supple and sinewy companions. And of course it's not just him. None of these guys throws a single note away. Drew Gress may be one of the best bassist John has played with, he certainly has the touch needed here. I know it's heresy to say so, but busy Joey Baron can drive me crazy.
