Big Thief is an American indie rock band with folk roots. The band is based in Brooklyn, New York, and is comprised Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek, Max Oleartchik, and James Krivchenia. Big Thief's music, rooted in the songs of Adrianne Lenker, paints in vivid tones "the process of harnessing pain, loss, and love, while simultaneously letting go, looking into your own eyes through someone else's, and being okay with the inevitability of death," says Adrianne.

Big Thief release their third album, . on Friday (May 3). They've risen quickly - something you saw often during the indie-rock boom of the 2000s, but not so much these days. Big Thief signed to Saddle Creek and released their debut Masterpiece in 2016, promptly following that up with Capacity in 2017, which garnered critical acclaim and wound up high on numerous end of year lists (only Kendrick Lamar and SZA placed higher on NPR's top 50; Newsweek ranked it No. 1). Now, after several labels pursuing the group, the band has found. a new home with 4AD alongside indie powerhouses such as the National, the Breeders and Grimes.

Big Thief are their own small ecosystem: Guitarist Buck Meek, bassist Max Oleartchik, drummer James Krivchenia, and Adrianne Lenker, the singer and oxygen of the Brooklyn quartet, whose lyrics can, among other things, bind all that is living and has ever lived together at the cellular level. Their music is a network of wood and wire, uncanny in its ability to sound undiscovered, like you’re stumbling upon a new species of folk rock with every song. This power that Big Thief give to the natural (and supernatural) defines their third and undoubtedly best album, .

Big Thief's second album, Capacity, arrived that June and reached the Top 20 of the Billboard Heatseekers, independent, Americana/folk, and vinyl charts. After touring in support of Capacity, including a headlining run and dates with Conor Oberst, Meek released a self-titled solo album on Keeled Scales. A solo Lenker followed up with the spare Abysskiss via Saddle Creek later in 2018. In early 2019, Lenker toured with Abysskiss producer Luke Temple, and Meek opened a dozen North American dates on a solo acoustic tour by Jeff Tweedy.
