Catherine Howe was a Kate Bush before her time, an English girl with a pretty face and an artlessly pretty voice who through pure serendipity was paired with eccentric American producer Bobby Scott. Over two weeks in February 1971, the 20-year-old Howe and 33-year-old Scott worked together at Soho's Trident Studios to create this lush masterpiece. But barely had it been released when the label that released it - CBS subsidiary Reflection - went belly-up. Halifax-born Howe had touted songs around after her early training as an actress at London's Corona drama school. A chance encounter with Reflection's Andrew Cameron Miller led to 1969 demos and, eventually, the sessions at Trident. It Comes With the Breezes' is a wafting samba for a summer night, the gallivanting title track a pastoral Laura Nyro. Gracing every track, moreover, are Scott's frenetically funky piano fills.
The Catherine Wheel is David Byrne's musical score commissioned by Twyla Tharp for her dance project. The Catherine Wheel premiered September 22, 1981, at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. The tracks "Big Blue Plymouth", "My Big Hands", "Big Business", and "What a Day That Was", were performed live by Talking Heads in 1982 and 1983; the latter two appear in their Stop Making Sense film, and "What a Day That Was" appears on the album. All songs written by David Byrne, except as indicated.
Wait and wait, Until the morning comes. Be a sleeping water, Look through the window of time, You may see my words In a wedding gown of reality, Inviting you once again to an altar where our wedlock of dreams once was broken, But this time it may return in truce. And when at last Bartimaeus can see, Then you will realise I am your prophet. But wait and wait, Until the morning comes. Topic(s) of this poem: understanding.
Winter turns to spring and I get tired, but I never wanted to fall asleep on you. night turns into day and I lie awake, anticipation and vain determination//I've been waiting for you for far too long. And every time you go i feel a pain. you walk out that door, leave my heart on the floor. and I feel like this is happening the same. And I have dreams of how I wish you were. you put your arm around me and tell me that you’re happy. so until then I won’t tell you what’s wrong. I’ll be fine tomorrow but for tonight please don’t go//I've been waiting for you for far too long. and I'm always wishing you good luck when you’re gone//and I keep trying to fit in with you where I don’t belong.
