Birgit Nilsson - Portrait—Mozart-Weber-Beethoven-Wagner album download
Airs extraits d'opéras et Lieder de Mozart, Beethoven, Weber, Wagner, Verdi, Birgit Nilson, soprano - Philharmonia Orchestra dir. Heinz Wallberg et Leopold Ludwig. In this album, we are treated to arias from operas Birgit sang in both full-length productions and in concert. The large diva from Sweden was most famous for her make Wagner-proud portrayal of Wagner heroines - Brunhilde, Isolde most notably, but she was also quite accomplished in the reperotoire of Strauss, Verdi and Beethoven. Her Mozart (she only sang Dona Ana in Don Giovanni) was not good, I'm afraid to say.
Mozart; Weber; Beethoven; Wagner; Strauss. Works: Various arias. Performer: Birgit Nilsson (soprano); various orchestras and conductors. This collection of excerpts (made in 1966-72) from Birgit Nilsson’s recordings for the Deutsche Grammophon label, now being re-circulated to mark her recent death, is an uneven disc, partly because she recorded many of her signature roles for other companies (Brünnhilde and Turandot, for example, are missing here).
