The Stooges was released on August 5, 1969, by record label Elektra.

On their debut album, The Stooges laid the groundwork for the shape of punk to come. Only eight tracks long, The Stooges covers immense ground: The dirty and complex sonic onslaught of I Wanna Be Your Dog finds itself anchored by a sleigh bell. Sparse, gloomy, 10-minute-long We Will Fall takes its cues from psychedelia, complete with chanting and a haunting viola. Through it all, Iggy Pop wails, moans, and finds his way as an iconic frontman, a position he never relinquished.
