This was Bruce’s breakthrough album and ‘Wondering Where the Lions Are" got radio airplay globally. The album was influenced by the books of Charles Williams who was a contemporary of . In particular ‘The Place of the Lion’ which was a supernatural fantasy novel. The lion is an archetype which was a threat to be fought by magic. The threat in 1979 was global war between super powers who were the lions in the title track. Dancing in the Dragon’s Jaws Q&A. Producers Eugene Martynec. Writers Bruce Cockburn.
The album continues the jazz-inflected folk he had been pursuing on his past several releases, but with a heavier emphasis on the worldbeat rhythms that would play a larger part in his music in the years to come.

Dancin' in the Dragon's Jaws, however, reaches a plateau of transcendent perfection that is simply stunning. The songs are beautifully written and fit perfectly in their melodies. To be honest, some of Cockburn's later poetry seems shoe-horned into the tunes he writes. The quintessential Cockburn album and a must have for all fans and anybody interested in BC's work. Much much more on this album than "Dancing in the Lions Jaws".
Rounding out the 1970s and completing a trilogy of acoustic jazz-folk albums that included In the Falling Dark and Further Adventures Of, Bruce Cockburn's Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws stands as both an era-ending album and a cumulative release that neatly built on the strengths of its predecessors. It also serves as a high-water mark for Cockburn in several respects. Featuring some of his finest guitar work ever, the album was voted an "essential" recording by Acoustic Guitar magazine, putting Cockburn in the prestigious company of such revered pickers as Django Reinhardt,.
