Savanna is grassland with scattered trees. Shrubland is dominated by woody or herbaceous shrubs. Large expanses of land in the tropics do not receive enough rainfall to support extensive tree cover. The tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and shrublands are characterized by rainfall levels between 90–150 centimetres (35–59 in) per year. Rainfall can be highly seasonal, with the entire year's rainfall sometimes occurring within a couple of weeks. African savannas occur between forest or woodland regions and grassland regions

Without the constant fires a tropical savanna could turn into a tropical forest. Another abiotic factor is soil. Soil is real important to plants and the animals that eat the plants. 6 CLIMATE The savanna has a wet/dry climate. It is usually cold during the dry season, which is winter. The savanna climate has a temperature range of 68° to 86° F. In the winter, it is usually about 68° to 78° F. In the summer the temperature ranges from 78° to 86°. The precipitation is 10 to 30 inches of rain.

Savannas are also called tropical grasslands and are found close to tropical rainforests. Human intervention has positive and negative consequences for this environment and the people who live there. Savanna regions have two distinct seasons - a wet season and a dry season. There is very little rain in the dry season. In the wet season vegetation grows, including lush green grasses and wooded areas. As you move further away from the equator and its heavy rainfall, the grassland becomes drier and drier - particularly in the dry season. Savanna vegetation includes scrub, grasses and occasional trees, which grow near water holes, seasonal rivers or aquifers. Plants and animals have to adapt to the long dry periods.

The Savanna biome is part of a larger grassland biome and is mainly made up of flat grassland vegetation. With the exception of Antarctica, the grassland biome is present in all continents and spans over 20% of the earth’s surface. From this biome comes the Savanna biome, also called tropical grassland and the temperate grassland. Despite these different features, the two biomes have a common thing, which is grass that sustains the ecosystem, thus the name ‘grassland’. The Savanna biome is characterized by dominant ground cover by grass species and scattered trees and shrubs. The Savanna biome is Tropical grassland. It is located between the two topics, Tropic of Cancer to the north and the Tropic of Capricorn to the south.

Location of Savannah Climates ¯ The savannah (also savanna) climate is so called after the variety of grassland, trees and vegetation that characterise this type of climate. Savannah regions are typified by areas of open grassland and scrub, but where the savannah regions meet the rainforest, the landscape is dominated by trees. In drier areas these regions are primarily grasses with just a scattering of trees. During the dry season there is a much greater exchange of radiant energy between the atmosphere and the ground, and visa versa, and the diurnal temperatures can vary by about 14°C.

7 (c) Some areas of Tropical savanna grassland are used by nomadic pastoralists. 4]. (a) The diagram shows the carbon cycle. Strategies are being used to reduce the rate at which carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are rising. Describe two of these strategies.
