The album samples the band's career from their punk roots (The Scream) up to the Dear Prudence single (just before Hyaena). The Banshees are infamous for going through guitarists like water, and the guitarist of the moment happened to be the Cure's Robert Smith, then serving his second tour as a member of the band while his regular band was on hiatus.

With the September 1983 release of the "Dear Prudence" single, Smith became an official member of the Banshees; a few weeks later, they recorded this live album Nocturne in London.
