Seven Ages of Rock (also known as 7 Ages of Rock) is a BBC Two series, co-produced by BBC Worldwide and VH1 Classic in 2007 about the history of rock music. It comprised six 60-minute episodes (reduced to 48 minutes for VH1 Classic), with a final episode of 90 minutes, and was broadcast on Saturdays at 21:00 (repeated on BBC One on Sundays). Each episode focused on one type of rock music, each typified by one or two artists or bands.

A dean of rock journalism delivers the first volume of a magnum opus on a subject that never ceases to fascinate. A spry study that should inspire listening with new, and newly informed, ears to old tunes. Ward nicely weaves in the slightly delayed impact of American blues and rock 'n' roll in England and Germany and the music scene there that led to an unexpected insurgency from Liverpool. Volume 1 ends in 1963, when the US loses its young and progressive president and the world is on the verge of gaining The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and one of the most inventive, enduring, and exciting periods in popular music.

New Species Volume VII" dates back to 2013, and was assembled by the Classic Rock Society, attached to their magazine Rock Society (issue 194). As far as such samplers go it features all the low and high points of such compilations: The songs included are of a generally high quality throughout, but the sheer diversity at hand means that the overall appeal will be something of a hit and miss affair, the number of listeners that will find all the songs of an equally high interest will. Kingbathmat: Psychedelic rock with space rock elements and a vintage hard rock undercurrent. John Lawton And Diana Express: Classic 70's piano driven hard rock. The Room: Early 80's Rush meets early 80's Magnum, with a touch of 80's AOR hard rock thrown in for good measure. Jolly: Dark, oppressive and bleak progressive metal.
